ROMA couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome legacy winemaker Valeria Odero, one of Italy’s leading women of wine, for a virtual wine dinner this Thursday, January 20.
Many of our guests will remember when her enologist, “it kid” Cristiano Garella, presented Valeria’s famous “white Pinot Noir” for one of our virtual events last year (it’s a Pinot Noir that has been vinified “off its skins,” in other words, with no skin contact, hence the white color of the wine).
For this Thursday’s event, Valeria will be presenting her family’s top wine, the Giorgio Odero Pinot Noir, named after her grandfather.
And what’s even more exciting is that we will sending our guests home with the 2013 vintage of the wine — arguably the best vintage of that decade.
I met Valeria for the first time last summer while I was in Italy teaching. I know our guests are really going to enjoy getting to meet her over Zoom. And the wine — not a cheap date! — is one of the best values we’ve offered in the series.
We had hoped to host Valeria in person this month. In a normal year, she would have visited Texas with the Slow Wine tour (scheduled for January 27 in Austin).
But when we learned that she had cancelled her trip to the U.S., I immediately called her to ask if she would join virtually. She graciously agreed and her Texas importer, who is based in Houston, worked with us to make this event possible (thanks again, Doug!).
It’s going to be a virtual night to remember. I hope you can join us. I’ve really been looking forward to this one.
Thank you for your support. We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you.
