Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! I can’t think of a better day to announce our next virtual winemaker dinner with chef Melissa Muller and grape grower Fabio Sireci of the iconic Sicilian winery Feudo Montoni.

Any of you who attended their first virtual dinner in March 2021 will remember that their story seems plucked straight from a Francis Ford Coppola epic. She was a New York chef and celebrated cookbook author. He was a winemaker living alone on his family’s historic estate in Sicily’s hinterland mountains.

They met when she visited his farm in search of heirloom olive groves. Not only did sparks fly when she finally reached his estate. A double rainbow — yes, double — appeared as well. And the rest, well, the rest is history….

If you couldn’t make it the first time around (and even if you were on the call with us), you don’t want to miss this one. For our previous event, we opened some fantastic wines from the estate. But this time we will be opening Fabio’s top wine, the storied Vrucara, one of Sicily’s most coveted and collectible labels, a 100-percent Nero d’Avola grown on his secluded organic farm in the mountains.

Italian wine critic Monica Larner gave it a whopping 94 points. Here’s what she had to say about it.

“The Feudo Montoni 2017 Sicilia Nero d’Avola Vrucara is a certified organic expression of Sicily’s vinous protagonist, Nero d’Avola, from a single vineyard planted to ancient pre-phylloxera vines. The fruit is dark and shows medium concentration, pointing to the hot and dry conditions of this growing season. But this native grape thrives in hot weather, allowing for plenty of aromatic expression and depth. Black cherry opens the bouquet, but it follows softly to toasted nut, sweet potting soil and cured tobacco. Ultimately, this is more of a mid-weight wine than it is an all-out, full-bodied expression. This lighter approach gives this red an extra layer of elegance and grace, with some fruity sweetness on the close. This release of 4,600 bottles will comfortably hold past the 10-year mark.”

Pretty cool, right?

I’m SUPER excited to get to share this extraordinary wine with you. Thanks for making it possible. We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for your support.
